Company History

Fink Roberts & Petrie, Inc.

FRP has a long history of providing the construction industry with engineering design of the highest quality since its founding in 1944.

The growth of the company over the past five decades has not altered the basic philosophy of the firm which is embodied in the following mission statement:

Since 1944 FRP has been building a reputation for quality and integrity of its engineering
services. As the firm continues its steady growth and seeks new opportunities to strengthen and diversify its practice, FRP shall maintain its standards of excellence to remain a premiere engineering firm offering a broad range of services in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering and Site Development.

Recognizing that FRP's most valuable asset is its employees, the firm shall continue to support the technical, professional and business development of its staff and to maintain the highest design standards in the industry.

FRP is committed to being a leading Engineering firm recognized for outstanding services and professional expertise.

FRP's principles are:

Provide for our employees an excellent workplace and the opportunities to develop their careers.

Service our clients' needs with respect, integrity and professional excellence.

Recognize our social responsibilities by being good citizens.

In December 1944, George Fink and LeRoy Roberts formed a partnership to practice consulting structural engineering in Indianapolis, Indiana. In its early years, the firm served as consultant to architects, engineers, fabricators and contractors on medium to large building projects. One of the earliest such projects was the Indiana State Fair Coliseum, an Indiana landmark.

Russ Petrie joined the firm in September 1952, and the partnership was renamed Fink Roberts & Petrie. With two very talented structural engineers (Fink in steel design and Petrie in concrete design), the firm began to acquire a great reputation for quality structural designs, which has remained with the firm to this day.

In the mid 1950
s, the firm broadened its practice to include highway and bridge design as well as storm sewer design. FRP began to establish its reputation for quality design in the civil engineering field as well. In 1958, the firm was incorporated.

The 1960
s established FRP as a highly respected consulting engineering firm involved in large projects such as the City-County Building in Indianapolis, the Indiana Convention Center and the Indiana Interstate Highway System.

The 1970
s saw a continual growth of the company's staff to meet the needs of an increasing list of repeat clients -- Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Eli Lilly & Company, Indiana University, Indiana Highway Department, City of Indianapolis and several local architectural firms.

The 1980's and 90's brought new challenges to FRP as the industry began to alter its traditional ways of project delivery. Fast-track construction, Construction Management, and Design/Build were new
processes which FRP's talented staff had to adjust to and excel at. During these two decades, FRP continued to provide structural engineering for numerous large scale, complex projects throughout Central Indiana and the surrounding states for many repeat clients, owners, local and national architects, contractors and developers.

In the mid 90's FRP expand
ed its speedway experience to national clients. For three years in a row, FRP led the design effort in three of the most prestigious racetracks built in the last 20 years.

FRP's staff works hard to welcome the 21st century with continued dedication to serving our clients with professionalism, integrity and goodwill.

FRP continues to be selected as the structural engineer for many new major projects.

Most recently, FRP is the Structural Engineer of Record for the New Indianapolis Airport Terminal and Concourses. FRP is also providing structural engineering for the new Indiana Stadium (future home for the Indianapolis Colts), the proposed Clarian Cancer Hospital, and the plant expansion program for Knauf Fiberglass.
